We’ve had a couple people email us regarding not being able to register an account on Twitbin. So we wrote this post to hopefully help those people out as well as others who may stumble upon the same problem. Remember, this post only applies to users that do not yet have a Twitter account.
Before downloading Twitbin, you need to first visit www.Twitter.com/signup and create an account. Twitter is a free service and it’s a really cool social-network and micro-blogging application. Now that you’ve created your account, you will have Twitter credentials. With those, you can now go to Twitbin.com and click on the download link.
This will in turn take you to our Firefox download page where you can download Twitbin as well as read and write a review. Once you download Twitbin, you will have to restart Firefox in order to complete the install. when it restarts, you will notice a litte blue bird icon on the same line as your address bar, as well as a really tiny icon on the bottom right of your status bar. If you dont see a status bar, simply go to View and then Status Bar in your Firefox top menu.
You’ll notice that upon the restart of Firefox you will have a page loaded that allows you to learn everything you need to know to get started with twitbin. If you accidentally closed that page, here’s the link : www.twitbin.com/welcome . This page should help you get started with Twitbin, and if it doesnt, feel free to go to our Community Service page at www.getsatisfaction.com/twitbin .
Hope all of this helps the new users to Twitbin!

It’s come to our attention that a good amount of our users are reporting that upon install, or update of Twitbin, the bird icon isn’t present. This has been bugging us so we’ve dug up a few answers that will hopefully help anone with this problem out.
First off, be aware that just because you don’t see the bird icon, doesn’t mean Twitbin is not there. If you have the latest version of Twitbin, you should have a little bird icon on the bottom right of your browser window in the status bar. If you don’t have the status bar visible, simply click on View and then make sure that Status Bar is checked. Now if you click on the bird in the status, this will open twitbin in your sidebar.
Another way to solve this is to manually add the bird in the navbar. It seems that many people have numerous add-ons, and sometimes, they just don’t get along, which will cause the icon to be allowed on the nav bar. Have no fear, simply click on View -> Toolbars -> Customize, and this will open a window. Scroll down and you should see your little bird icon there. Simply drag and drop it onto your navbar, and that’s it. Now if you click on it, Twitbin will open.
Finally, with the help of a loyal user numnutz (no seriously, that’s what he/she signed the messages with, so i have to at least credit him/her) it came to our attention that Twitbin and the Skype add-on, specifically version 2.2.0.102, don’t get along. If you are unable to find the icon, or the see it in the status bar or even in the customize window, you may need to disable some add-ons one by one to see if there’s a conflict.
Hopefully that will help out those of you experiencing these problems. We will be updating Twitbin again with a few minor design updates, as well as a few new functionalities that we believe will make plenty of you happy.
Tweet on!

We’ve received many concerns about people no longer being able to use Twitbin at their office. Since we don’t want you to suffer, we’ll give you a small workaround. It’s pretty easy and should let you tweet again. Here’s how to do it on Firefox 3.0.
In your browser, open http://twitbin.com/beta.
This will be version 1.0 in a standard page view. Now bookmark the page from the bookmarks dropdown menu. Name it whatever you like (we’ll use twitbin for this example).
Then go to the bookmarks dropdown, and click on Organize Bookmarks. On the left hand side you will see your bookmarks organized in whatever way have been setting it up. Click on Bookmarks Menu in the left hand, and find the bookmark you just made (in our case named twitbin). Click on the name and on the bottom click the More button. This will lower a new part of options, with a little checkbox on the very bottom that says “Load this bookmark in a sidebar”.
Close the Organize Bookmars box, and go back to your Bookmarks dropdown. Find your bookark (twitbin), click on it, and Voila! It loads! Enjoy and let us know if you still have problems.

So now that Twitbin 2.0 is out, let us give you a few tips on how to appreciate all the functionalities. You’ll notice right away that the design has been updated. This includes a few new tabs as well as a few new icons under the your avatar.
Lets begin with the icons under the avatars. There are four of them, beginning with the Retweet function displayed by the double arrow (looks like a fast forward button), which allows you to click on someone’s tweet, and then hit enter and you’ll retweet while giving attribution to the person.
Next up is the Favorite icon. If you like a tweet, either someone said something funny, or clever, or interesting, or even linked to something you don’t want to forget, hit the little heart, and it will be stored in your Favorites section of Twitbin. Later, you can see it by clicking the little heart in the tabs section, to the left of PUBLIC.
After this we have the @ symbol, which allows you to reply to someone. If you see someone ask a poll question, or @ messages you, you just click on the @ of that specific tweet, and just type what you want to say, and hit enter. It’s that simple.
The last icon here is the i, which is a link to the users homepage. Remember that this will only show if that user has a homepage listed on Twitter. If there is no homepage, you will not see an icon. This icon allows you to click on it, and in a new tab in Firefox, that user’s homepage will open.
Now let’s go up to the highest bar, directly below where it says Twitbin. This contains a few different icons. The first is the little Twitbin icon. This will take you straight to Twitbin.com in a new tab. From here you can see our latest blog post and see if we have any updates. For any more information, be sure to visit our blog.
Following this is the little man icon, which is your login information. Here you put in your twitter information and can select to Remember me on this computer, and also check to follow Twitbin.
To the right is the wrench, which are your preferences. Here you can filter the tweets you see by seeing either only Friends, Replies, Direct, Favorites, or Public. You chose what you want to see. You can also chose the refresh rate which allows you to get
Last but not least is the new “tweet this” functionality. Its hidden in your right click contextual menu. It shortens any page you choose and puts the link in your Twitbin input box.

So we’ve been talking about the next version of twitbin for a while now (a LONG while), and its finally nearing completion. We had to look at the business model under which we were operating twitbin, and we also had to look at the technology we had used to build twitbin (1.0-1.5), and I am happy to say that both are being overhauled for the new version.
Version 2.0 of twitbin has been completely rewritten from the ground up. EVERYTHING is faster. Everything is smoother. Almost everything is prettier too. So we’re also unveiling a new version of the site, and we are hoping to get your feedback (both positive and negative) on the new version so that we can make it much better.
One thing that is coming back is the ads. We can’t really keep running the system without them. We will be offering an option to remove the ads, but we are going to try and keep that option affordable and for those of you who don’t remove them, we will make them infrequent. If you want to get some free advertising when the new version is launched. Please email me twitbin[at]gmail.com
